Have you ever thought about your blind spots? Those things we can’t see about ourselves unless we really slow down and look? Like the back of our own heads.
Now listen. Keep a little mirror in your bathroom and check the back of your hair before you flip that light off. And if you forget, please sit in the balcony at church. I can’t hear a thing the preacher says if there’s a wallowed out place on somebody’s head.
But we have other blind spots that are more significant than church hair. Things like the expression we carry. The way we stand. How we fold our arms over our chest. Our tone of voice. Things that are so “us” or so habitual that we no longer notice that we appear unapproachable to the people around us.
Some people might say, “Oh, that’s just me. She knows I don’t mean anything by it.” Hmph. Thinking your wallowed-out hair doesn’t annoy your friends will have you sitting in that balcony right by yourself.
