What is Fear?

Fear is pointless. And it produces nothing.

It has the ability to drag you down and away if you let it, but left on its own, it’s nothing. As a standalone product or vehicle, it has no power. Only when it’s fueled by our reactions does it take on life.

I want you to really think about this, because it’s the key to understanding how much control we can have over our fear. I’m not talking about physically debilitating fear that causes one to faint or hyperventilate. That kind of fear is above my pay grade.

I’m talking about the fears we face as busy men and women who are trying to find joy and peace in busy schedules, growing families, career moves, changing friend groups, play dates, re-locations, hectic grocery store runs, birthday parties, crowded social calendars and bathing suit season.

We get insecure. We feel inept and unprepared. We feel ugly and insignificant. And then we beat ourselves up as just one result of the fears we hold!

But, we don’t have to live with fear. We don’t have to give it a chair at our table. We don’t have to let it taint our experiences and relationships. Because without us, fear is nothing.

Let this knowledge sink in deep. Let it remind you that YOU are smart, wise, and caring and don’t need some four letter word telling you how to live your life.

But God. God is powerful and faithful regardless of how much you contribute. In fact, when you can’t contribute even a wave of your hand, he’s there. He will carry you higher than your fear and emotions. He’s stronger. He’s bolder. And, if you ask him to, he will teach you far more than your fear ever could.
